I’m always asked for recommendations for the best home organizing containers and products. So many of clients feel they’ve tried everything to be organized, without realizing that some of their frustration comes from flimsy or inferior containers. If your stuff is toppling or overflowing, the container may be creating more problems than it solves. Quality organizing products make the best use of the space we have, hold items securely, and let us find things at a glance.
Bins
For bins, I recommend sturdy, clear ones that are square or rectangular. It’s important to measure your shelves, cabinets and drawers before buying something to get them organized. Record the length, width and depth before shopping for bins, trays and dividers. You want to take full advantage of the space available. I advise against round containers because they sacrifice space.
Hangers
The right hangers can make your closets so much easier to use. Wire hangers often poke through clothes, don’t hold much weight, and easily tangle with other hangers. Be good to yourself by upgrading to sturdy ones. I recommend a variety of hangers for different purposes.
- Felt hangers keep pants in place and prevent the bunching that causes wrinkles on the legs. They’re also good for fabrics that slip off smooth hangers, and plus-size tops.
- Clip hangers for skirts or shorts.
- Plastic tube hangers for shirts. Men usually prefer these or slimline wood hangers.
- Plastic tube hangers with slots for tanks and sleeveless shirts and dresses.
- Genuine coat hangers for heavy coats
Drawer Dividers
Drawer dividers prevent rummaging and frustration by grouping and containing similar items like pens, batteries, cooking utensils, socks and shirts. Whether it’s kitchen drawers, bathroom drawers or dresser drawers, dividers will make your life easier and save you time.
